John A. Johnson holds the rank of Professor of Psychology. Since his appointment to the campus in 1981, he has taught over a dozen different psychology courses, a technical writing course, a freshman seminar, two courses on computer applications in the social sciences, and several honors seminars and special topics courses. He also serves as an advisor for Psychology majors. He has occasionally taught at the University Park campus and has served on graduate committees of both Penn State students and students from the DuBois area who earned their graduate degrees from other universities. His teaching awards include DuBois Campus Professor of the Year, Fellow of the Schreyer Institute for Innovation in Learning, Recipient of the Provost's Collaborative and Curricular Innovations Special Recognition Program Award, First place STAR Project Award from the Jack P. Royer Center for Learning and Academic Technologies, and the Penn State Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Dr. Johnson completed his B.S. degree in Psychology and his B.S. degree in Biology at the Pennsylvania State University in 1976. He earned his M.A. degree in Psychology in 1979 and his Ph.D. in Psychology in 1981 at the Johns Hopkins University. In 1990-91 he spent his sabbatical year as visiting professor at the University of Bielefeld in Germany and he spent a portion of his 1999 sabbatical as visiting research scientist at the Oregon Research Institute.

In addition to teaching psychology courses, Dr. Johnson conducts research on factors that affect the validity of personality tests, particularly in employment settings. He has consulted on employee selection issues for several local companies, and has published over 30 scientific articles and book chapters on personality theory and measurement. He maintains a web-based personality test that has been visited by over 300,000 individuals and was recognized with an award from MSNBC.
