The strength of the LASCC program is its unique flexibility. With the help of your advisor, you can develop an academic program just right for the career you want.

At Penn State DuBois, you can create your individualized academic program in one of two options:

• Liberal Studies includes the study of Arts, Business, Communications, Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Science/Math, Engineering, and Human Development. Students in this option may choose careers in:
• Journalism
• Philosophy
• Health Care
• Sociology
• Law
• Education

among many other disciplines.

• Social and Behavioral Sciences includes courses in Psychology, Sociology, Human Development and Family Studies, Political Science, Economics, Counselor Education, and Human Geography. Career options may include:
  • Advertising
  • Social Services
  • Health Care
  • Fund-Raising
  • Banking
  • Education
  • Business Management

  among others.

Both options also provide excellent preparation for students who plan to attend graduate and professional schools.

Program Requirements

The LASCC program traditionally attracts the best students and is well-suited to scholars who want to be challenged academically. To earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in LASCC, a minimum of 124 credits is required:

• General Education: 46 credits


• Electives: 18 credits
  
• B.A. degree requirements: 24 credits
  
• Requirements for the major: 12 credits
  
• Supporting courses: 12 credits
  

  • Research methods/projects: 3 credits
    
  • Communication skills: 3 credits
    
  • Theory/application: 3 credits
    
  • Critical analysis: 3 credits
    

All students in the LASCC program must take 12 credits of a foreign language.

In addition, students are encouraged to take courses that sharpen their computer skills and make them knowledgeable in the latest innovations. Some LASCC majors also choose business courses to enhance their liberal arts foundation. Management, Marketing, Business Law, and Accounting courses are all available to LASCC students.
