Beginning an Education Major
at Penn State DuBois

Most students pursuing Pennsylvania certification for teaching nursery school through high school can complete the first two years of their degree at Penn State DuBois. There are some exceptions, though. In some programs that require a sequence of specialized courses during the freshman or sophomore year, students will have to study at another campus prior to their junior year.

Here are the details:

Freshman & Sophomore Years at DuBois:

  • Elementary and Kindergarten Education
  • Secondary Education
  • Special Education
  • Urban Education
  • Workforce Education (with some work through U.P.)

Must begin at University Park:

  • Music Education

Other programs (Agricultural and Extension Education, Art Education, and Health & Physical Education) may begin at Penn State DuBois, but not all of the suggested freshmen and sophomore courses are offered, so students should plan to change to another campus prior to the junior year. Students in these programs should work closely with an advisor.
