Education Overview

Penn State is a nationally recognized leader in teacher education, offering several accredited teacher certification programs as well as Rehabilitation Services Education and several graduate degrees. School districts from all over the country come to Penn State to recruit teachers.

Degree programs leading to teacher certification are controlled majors. This means that certain requirements must be fulfilled during the first three or four semesters of study before formal admission to the certification program in the junior year.  The best way to be sure that requirements are being met is to work closely with an academic advisor.

Most students pursuing Pennsylvania certification for teaching nursery school through high school can complete the first two years of their degree at Penn State DuBois. There are some exceptions, though. In some programs that require a sequence of specialized courses during the freshman or sophomore year, students will have to study at another campus prior to their junior year.
